Sometimes inspiration comes in the least likely of places... like at the hair salon when I was getting my bright purple hair touched up.
I've had mermaid hair for awhile now. First it was a blue to green ombre, then a blue to teal, then brunette to blue, purple to blue, and finally, brunette to purple. I love the vivid hair trend, and am extremely happy with my decision last fall to commit to a deep violet colors. Surprise! 2018 rolls around and Pantone announces Ultra Violet as the color of the year. Sweet! I am ahead of the curve and on trend by accident.
So my fabulous hair stylist Rachel (Metamorphosis Salon and Spa in VB, VA!) was talking about my Ultra Violet hair and it completely inspired me. What else can I make purple? Well obviously, a painting. So I got home and got to work.
First off, I knew I wanted it to be like my alchemy paintings for Skyrim, using multiple subjects arranged around a central theme. I already had a lavender sketch, so that was an easy pick. Then I have sketched thistles a few times and thought that may be another good place to start. For a central piece, I have had various forms of crystals on my list for ages and thought perhaps Amethyst would be a great opportunity here. And finally... violets. Of course.

And here she is, my finished new work of art: Ultra Violet!
I'll get prints up on my shop as soon as possible! Until then, I have quite a few new options on Etsy, including prints of my painting from September: Mendel's Punnett Square.
