I've talked at length about the weird niche I've found myself painting within. I live a geek-centric life, and it is definitely reflected in my art. Of course, I get a lot of influence from my geek-tastic friends and family as they request or just suggest I paint certain subjects. Recently, I got a suggestion from somewhere unexpected: a clerk helping me frame some of my originals. We were chatting over my cacti prints. Something about how on-trend she thought they were... So naturally, I asked her opinion on what she thought would trend next?
Pineapples, of course! Tropical, exotic, delicious, Pineapples. Great suggestion.
Now, I thought the damn cactus needles were tedious... or that pink and white striped straw from hell... But alas, the texture on a pineapple is pretty extreme. You have the brown and yellow of the fruit, all deep shadows and shiny highlights... Then of course, the pokey sharp leaves packed tightly against one another on top. It was another challenge for this self taught painter. I'm pleasantly pleased with how it came out!
