I talk about Arizona constantly. I was born and raised there, and since becoming a Navy spouse, haven't been back often enough. I recently went on a kind of homesick spending spree, seeking out creosote candles and prickly pear jelly and syrup. I've definitely consumed more than my fair share of prickly pear margaritas....
And don't get me started on the new prickly pear frappuccino at Starbucks... Let's just say it doesn't quite taste enough like my beloved cactus to me. "Oh but it's a berry cactus blah blah..." Stop. It tastes like strawberries and cotton candy thrown into sugar and ice. No.
Whoops, back on track.... Ah hem. Yes, well, as someone who absolutely obsesses over botany and vintage botanical style art... how the hell have I never painted a cactus? I might be single handedly keeping the prickly pear margarita industry afloat and yet... never even sketched a plate cactus? WELL. After jigsawing a few saguaros in San Diego for the SD County Fair, I sketched myself two pretty little blooming cacti. AND YES, one is indeed my beloved Prickly Pear.
